• Aboriginal Deaths in Custody will be reported in real time under a new national system that starts this week;
• The owner of the Facebook page Action For Alice 2020 has announced he will be taking a break from the page, saying the page has taken its toll on his social and emotional wellbeing;
• Alice Springs traditional owner group Lhere Artepe is calling on local community groups to come up with some justice re-investment ideas;
• Cairns puts its hand up for 20th AFL licence in competition with the NT licence bid.

In this bulletin:

• The Blak Sovereignty Movement held a press conference, led by Independent Victorian Senator LIDIA THORPE, where they’ve declared they will say No to the Voice to Parliament. There is three major groups pushing for the Australian vote later this year at the referendum…the Yes campaign, pushed by the Federal Government…the No campaign consisting of the majority of conservative politicians opposing the ALP…and the Blak Sovereign Movement, voting No, pushing for Sovereignty and Treaty before Constitutional Change and the Voice To Parliament;
• A motion has passed the Senate yesterday afternoon that the Voice To Parliament and Constitutional Change will not impact First Nations peoples sovereignty.
• Tomorrow is the 16th anniversary of the Federal Intervention in the Northern Territory. In 2007 leading in the Federal Election, former Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD launched the Federal intervention, seen by many as a stunt to win the Federal election.

In this bulletin:

• The Constitutional Alteration Bill, which sets up the Voice To Parliament referendum, has passed the Senate this morning, with a vote of 52 in support and 19 against. A standing ovation and applause broke out on the floor of parliament when the vote was read out. Now that it’s passed the Senate, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese can set a referendum date which must be no sooner than two months and no later than six months from June 19.
• The Federal Government has given the Northern Territory $50 million dollars to go towards boosting public housing as the National housing crisis continues. It’s part of the Federal Government’s $2 billion Social Housing Fund Accelerator payment…the funding will be provided to States and Territories within the next two weeks, and will deliver thousands of new social homes across Australia.  $50 million dollars each goes to the NT, the ACT and Tasmania…the bigger states…New South Wales gets $610 million….South Australia gets $135 million…Queensland gets $398 million…Victoria gets $496 million.
• In the AFL…and a couple of one-sided clashes on the weekend during round 14…
• The round started last Thursday night with Port Adelaide consolidating their position on top of the AFL ladder, defeating Geelong at Adelaide Oval…16-14-110 to the Cats 11-6-72.
• The struggling Carlton bounced back with strong win over the Gold Coast Suns at the MCG yesterday…Carlton 18-12-120 to the Suns 8-13-61.

• Victorian Independent Senator LIDIA THORPE says sexual harassment allegations she made this week against Liberal Senator DAVID VAN were only taken seriously after a non-Aboriginal woman made similar complaints;
• The Central Australian Aboriginal Congress is urging people to look after their feet. Congress has launched a new web page full of resources in English and local Aboriginal languages, called Looking After Feet, including a smartphone app;
• The Desert Knowledge Centre will hold its Bustin The Grass Festival tomorrow at the precinct south of Alice Springs, similar to a wood chopping competition, to draw attention to the buffel grass problem in Central Australia;
• And it’s a top of the table clash in the Central Australian Football League tomorrow at Albrecht Oval at 3PM when ladder leaders Federals take on second placed Pioneers.

Look after your feet.

That’s the message from the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress, which has released a new range of culturally responsive health resources teaching people how to look after their feet.

The project Looking After Feet – Ingke Arntarnte-areme resources include a new smartphone app, illustrations, downloadable posters, videos, all available on the Congress Look After Your Feet website page at:

The resources are available in several Central Australian local Aboriginal languages.

Looking after your feet is important, especially if you are living with diabetes.

Your feet are at a greater risk of injury when you have diabetes, because you may lose feeling in your feet which makes it harder to notice cuts and sores.

These can lead to infection.

You may also have reduced blood flow to your feet, which makes it harder for a cut or sore to heal.

Looking After Feet – Looking After Feet – Ingke Arntarnte-areme  will be launched at a special community event today from 11:30am-2:30pm at the Flynn Church Lawns in the Todd Mall in Mparntwe. All are welcome to attend for food, fun and an introduction into these resources. More information is available at caac.org.au.

• Federal Opposition leader PETER DUTTON has expelled Senator DAVID VAN from the Federal Liberal party room, after allegations of sexual assault were made against him by Senator LIDIA THORPE in the Senate on Wednesday evening;
• The Areyonga community’s school is today celebrating 50 years of teaching in bi-lingual language;
• As part of the weekly Youth Mural Artship workshops at Central Craft in Alice Springs, local Street Art Mentors spent the afternoon with kids from Contarf;
• In sport…Geelong have a challenge ahead of them tonight when they take on Port Adelaide at home at Adelaide Oval.
