Concerns raised at Senate Beetaloo Basin Fracking Inquiry….if you cant safeguard the Territory- then you can’t frack the Territory!
Traditional Owners from across the Northern Territory have told a Beetaloo Basin Senate inquiry that they do not consent to fracking on their land because it threatens their water supplies,cultural heritage and sacred sites.
The Northern Territory Labor government, supported by the federal Liberal and Labor parties, has opened up half of the Northern Territory to oil and gas drilling .. including a 50 million dollar grant to help fast track the process in the Beetaloo Basin.
The Senate inquiry heard evidence directly from Traditional Owners in Darwin on Wednesday morning.
Speaking shortly after the hearings GetUp’s First Nations Justice Campaign Director Larissa Baldwin said “Traditional Owners have now told the Morrison Government face-to-face that they do not consent to climate-destroying fracking in the Beetaloo…. and Governments have a responsibility to respond to their call.

Aboriginal people in South Australia are back on the political agenda
Aboriginal people in South Australia are back on the political agenda following the removal of the Marshall Liberal Government and the push for state based voice, treaty and truth by new Labor Premier Peter Malinauskas.
Mr Malinauskas opened his victory speech by acknowledging he was on Aboriginal land…. saying that for the first time in the history of the state an initiated Aboriginal man will lead Aboriginal affairs.
I think there is,quite rightly as there should be, a big expectation from Aboriginal people on what Labor is going to do- Kyam Maher.
Kyam Maher who served as South Australian Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Reconciliation in the Weatherall Labor Government says the new Premier is committed to the process of truth, treaty and a voice. Speaking on CAAMA Radio Mr Maher said Aboriginal people have to be at the forefront of driving and designing the policies that will impact them into the future.
