It is almost impossible for some people to imagine what it is like to live your whole life in a place where the water is not safe… where dialysis machines can’t work because the water isn’t clean enough !

Indigenous Australians Assistant Minister Malarnderri McCarthy shares her thoughts….

caamapwphoto 2021

“This implementation plan is the first under Labor and will help turn the tide towards more Indigenous Australians living longer, healthier and happier lives. The substantial investment in clean drinking water, remote housing and food security will be a game-changer for so many Indigenous Australians who live out in bush communities.Together, this comprehensive support will help build stronger families and communities today, and ensure future generations can get the best start to life and achieve their full potential.Indigenous Australians know the challenges and opportunities facing them more than anyone else and it is so important that decision-making and ownership is taken over the policies affecting their communities.” Assistant Minister Malarnderri McCarthy.

Just who is the guy in the brown and yellow shirt that upset so many people at the community meeting…. and why is he so passionate ?

Declan Furber Gillick was born in Mpartnwe/Alice Springs and is the son of veteran Stolen Generations campaigner – highly respected Arrernte man- the late Mr H.Furber and Vicki Gillick, policy coordinator of lobby group The People’s Alcohol Action Coalition.

The moment that I yelled out was in response to when the speaker asserted that any time that anyone sees kids on the street outside of school hours they should call the police and I actually think that’s a very dangerous thing to be asserting !

But is this what community meeting co-ordinator Garth Thompson really said ?….listen here to his actual comments.

CAAMA apologizes to Garth Thompson and is sorry for misrepresenting his comment on a previous posting. We will continue to accurately represent all views as the town goes forward in achieving real solutions to longstanding issues.

My name is Declan Furber Gillick and I am son of Kumanjayi Mr H. Furber
