The new closing date for online auditions to audition for one of Australia’s premier First Nations dance colleges NAISDA has been extended by two weeks.
Communities, families and schools are encouraged to help support young people considering a career in dance and the performing arts, by having a yarn about the possibilities that auditioning for NAISDA can offer as well.
Completing an online audition application before 15 November is the first step in creating options for next year.
NAISDA is located on Darkinjung Land on the Mount Penang Parklands in Kariong on the Central Coast of New South Wales and has support for people who are away from their country.
Wiradjuri woman Emily Flannery from Forbes in the Central West of NSW pursued her love of dance a number of years ago underwent studies at the NAISDA Dance College.
While at NAISDA, Emily was fortunate enough to spend time in both Yolngu and Moa Island communities and received the Young Regional Artist Scholarship (YRAS), which enabled her to spend five months at Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company in Israel during her final year of study in 2018.
Since graduating, she has worked with Opera Australia, Phunktional Arts, Catapult Choreographic Hub, Ensemble Offspring, Dance Makers Collective and Karul Projects.
She is currently working with the Bangarra Dance Theatre and she spoke to CAAMA’s Philippe Perez about her time learning at NAISDA and her career since then (audio below).
