One of the most significant measures announced by the Prime Minister will see the government invest $378.6 million in a new reparations scheme for members of the Stolen Generation from Commonwealth territories including the Northern Territory, Jervis Bay Territory and the ACT.
The Prime Minister says a one-off payment will be made to survivors “in recognition of the harm caused by forced removal“.
Mr Morrison said “what happened is a shameful chapter in our nation’s story, we have already confronted it in a national apology but our deeds must match our words” .
They will also be given the opportunity – should they wish – to tell their story and receive an individual apology.
