• A Northern Territory police officer who carried an AR-15 rifle in Yuendemu on the night Constable Zachary Rolfe fatally shot Kumanjayi Walker has told the coronial inquest into his death he had it in case something extraordinary occurred.
• A team of United Nations officials are in Australia to inspect places of detention to assess the treatment of detainees in police cells, prisons immigration detention centres and youth detention facilities.
• Meanwhile another coronial inquest into the death of an Aboriginal man who died after a struggle with police in Gunnedah has heard from nurses who saw him the day before he died.
