The Northern Territory government announced an additional 275,000 dollars in funding for the Yipirinya Schools Sunset School program. The Sunset School is a new cultural educational program which targets indigenous youth and operates outside the school hours of Yipirinya School.
Minister for the Northern Territory Natasha Fyles, made the announcement on the 23rd of August 2022 while speaking outside the front of Yipirinya school, where she said, “I think this model of education where, the community and aboriginal leadership is empowered to educate the future generations… It highlights what we need.”
The principle of Yipirinya school, Gavin Morris, said that enrolment rates at Yipirinya School have nearby tripled compared to last year, and attendance has nearly quadrupled and that the Sunset school was partially responsible for that.
