In today’s bulletin:
• Some traditional custodians opposed to a contentious $4.5bn fertiliser plant on Western Australia’s Burrup peninsula have accused environment minister Tanya Plibersek of “faulty reasoning” about the views of local Aboriginal communities. Ms Plibersek has not used her powers to stop the project from going ahead near world-famous rock art in Western Australia a week after visiting the region.
• An Aboriginal Sea Ranger from the Tiwi Islands has told the court he was shocked to learn of plans to develop a multibillion-dollar gas field in waters in the Timor Sea, north of the Tiwi islands.
• Torres Strait Islands representatives have met to sign a joint statement on their wish to regain more autonomy over their affairs.
