Michael Gunner   was born in Alice Springs in 1976, the eldest of four children. He went to schools in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek and Darwin where he  achieved  a Bachelor of Arts degree  from the then NT University. Between 2001 and 2008  he  worked as a senior government ministerial and policy adviser to former Chief Minister Clare Martin and was elected to the NT Legislative Assembly for the seat of Fannie Bay following her retirement. The first Northern Territory local  to become  Chief Minister- he was sworn in on 31 August 2016  and announced his intention to resign as Chief Minister on May  10th 2022.
