The Labor Member for the Northern Territory seat of Lingiari has used his last major speech in parliament to call on the federal government to adopt recommendations of the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
Warren Snowden who announced last year that he will not recontest the next election is one of the longest-serving House of Representatives MPs and is the only person remaining in parliament who was first elected in the 1980s and served for nearly 32 years.
Mr snowden has thanked the many residents of the Northern Territory and the Indian Ocean Territories and said he was grateful for the support of many Aboriginal people in remote communities who had elected him over the years .
He used his final main speech to call on action to adopt the recommendation of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, start a process of truth-telling and improve remote housing.
