Matt Paterson was announced as the new Mayor of (Mparntwe) Alice Springs on Wednesday, September 15, 2021.

Mr. Paterson was sworn in at a ceremony of the 14th council after being declared mayor by the Northern Territory Electoral Commission after a recount saw him win the race by two votes ahead of councilor Jimmy Cocking.

Working with Aboriginal organisations will be a priority for the new Alice Springs Town Council, according to the new mayor, Matt Paterson, who told CAAMA that he intends to maintain relationships with First Nations organisations in the town.
