Marion Scrymgour has lived and worked across the Territory all her life. Raised in Darwin with her 11 siblings and extended family she has cultural links to the Tiwi Islands and Central Australia,
Marion was Member of the NT Legislative Assembly for 11 years, the first Aboriginal woman in Parliament, the first Minister and the first Aboriginal leader of any Government in Australia when she served as Acting Chief Minister.
She retired from politics at the 2012 election and worked for the Australian Red before returning to Wurli Wurlinjang Aboriginal Corporation as its CEO.
In 2019 Marion became the first woman CEO of any land council in the Northern Territory when she was appointed CEO of the Northern Land Council.
In 2021 Marion was preselected as the Labor candidate for the federal seat of Lingiari in the 2022 federal election after sitting member Warren Snowden announced he would not stand for re-election.
