There are calls to remote communities and urban centres across the Northern Territory to complete their Census forms before the end of this week.

Around 86 per cent of households across the NT have completed this year’s Census, with Friday being the cut-off date for anyone who has not sent in their forms.

This participation rate is a jump from the 2016 Census, which saw a 67 per cent completion rate for the Census in 2016.

Aboriginal Engagement Officer with the Australian Bureau of Statistics and Warramungu woman Sharon Hewitt told CAAMA that while there was a significant improvement in getting forms in, there are still a number of people who need to get their forms in.

She says there are great benefits for communities in completing the Census and speaks to CAAMA’s Philippe Perez (audio below).
