Federal Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese has welcomed many of the Morrison governments funding announcements in the closing the Gap report card… but says there are still many other measures that should be implemented – including a path towards treaty and constitutionally enshrining a voice to parliament.

Responding to the Closing the Gap report card which has been reset with 16 new targets to improve the lives of the First Nations Australians ,Mr Albanese committed to an ambitious target of 5 per cent Aboriginal employment in the  Australian Public Sector and a requirement that 200 of the nation’s largest companies report on recruitment of Indigenous employees.

Mr Albanese also pledged to double the number of Indigenous rangers working on country by the end of the decade and establish a Makarrata Commission to oversee truth-telling initiatives and treaties.
