Concerns about a deeper digital divide

The peak group for the Social and Community Sector in the NT says a significant digital divide is growing within the Northern Territory.

The latest Cost of Living report from the Northern Territory Council of Social Services says there need to be more subsidies to address affordability for broadband services in households with limited incomes.

The report also showed around 25,000 Territorians do not have Internet or mobile access where they live, while some have patchy services.

The author of the report, Jonathon Pilbrow, said free or unmetered access to online services would improve affordability.
